What is involved with the consultation?

Answer

The first step is really just a conversation. Be prepared to discuss things like your current skincare routine, how you have taken care of your skin in the past, any specific concerns or things about your skin that bother you, your lifestyle and habits, and your medical history. Your skin, after all, does not exist in isolation from the rest of your body. It can affect and be affected by the health of other bodily systems and organs, as well as by how you treat your body in general. This step in the process helps to inform you of any tips or suggestions we provide to get you on the right, healthy track to the beautiful, healthy skin that supports your overall health and well-being.

How do you visually examine my skin?

Our professionals assess by sight elements that contribute to the overall health, function, appearance, and quality of your skin. These elements include your skin tone and texture, the size of your pores, dark spots and other types of discolouration, fine lines and wrinkles, and acne.

Why do you need to examine my skin by touch?

Answer

A visual inspection would be limiting. We must gently touch or palpate the skin to better understand its overall health and quality. This touch assessment helps us understand your skin’s overall elasticity and firmness, hydration level, sebum or oil production, and any particularly sensitive areas.

What are the different skin types and conditions that may be assessed?

Answer

This is an important element, as certain products are formulated or best for specific skin types and concerns. Normal skin, for one, is generally balanced with minimal imperfections. Dry skin may feature a flaky, rough surface and visible creases. Oily skin generally features big pores, a shiny appearance, and is acne-prone. Sensitive skin tends to react easily to products and is also prone to inflammation. Lastly, combination skin is characterized as an oily T-zone (forehead, nose, chin) with dry and oily areas. Some of the more common conditions that we see and treat include acne, dark spots (hyperpigmentation), dryness, and redness. With this knowledge of skin type and concerns in hand, we can recommend the most appropriate treatments and skincare routine.
