Versatile peels for appealing skin
Peels are a remarkable aesthetic service. They are remarkable in their versatility and capacity to rebuild your skin at the cellular level and from the inside out. Of course, peels are highly technique-specific. It is important to turn to the expertise of highly qualified providers like medical aesthetician Ama Sandhar and our team at The Facial House in Whitby, Ontario. Due to our expertise, we can first assess your skin, needs, and goals to make appropriate recommendations for peels. By selecting the right peel, we provide a strong foundation for you to reach your goals and experience actual, notable improvements in the health and beauty of your skin.
What are peels?
Peels are an aesthetic service that resurfaces the skin. Other forms of skin resurfacing use mechanical means, such as microdermabrasion. Lasers may also be used for resurfacing treatment. Peels are different in that they use special solutions, formulations, and ingredients to improve the texture, appearance, and quality of the skin. These formulations are customized to your needs and characteristics, such as your skin type and sensitivity.
How do peels and other resurfacing techniques work?
Resurfacing is powerful and the “secret” behind many individuals’ famously flawless skin. In youthful skin, cells take between 14 and 20 days to “turn over.” This cell turnover process involves new skin cells working their way up from the lower layers to the skin’s surface. As they reach the top layer, the older, dead skin cells are shed. With aging, it takes longer for the new cells to replace the old ones. In fact, by the age of 60, it can take more than 60 days for new cells to reach the surface. When turnover and cellular repair become sluggish, dead cells build up, making the skin look tired, dull, blotchy, and wrinkled. Resurfacing encourages new, healthy, and unblemished skin cells. The means to an end differ; some resurfacing methods use special devices to mechanically resurface the skin, and others use energy-based technologies to remove damaged skin. True to their name, peels use solutions that trigger a “peeling” effect to remove dead cells and allow new ones to work their way to the surface. Advancements in peels also allow us to support dramatic results without a peeling effect and generally without the downtime and side effects associated with older, deep peels.

What do you mean by deep peels?
Peels are an incredibly versatile service. They have traditionally been classified as light or superficial, medium-strength, and deep. The light peels target and treat only the outermost layer of skin (the epidermis). The solutions and ingredients used for medium peels penetrate more deeply into the epidermis and upper dermis. Deep peels reach the mid-reticular dermis. Due to these differences, light peels are generally best for mild skin concerns such as dry patches. Medium-strength peels are best for mild to moderate signs of aging and sun damage, such as age spots, fine lines, and some acne scars. The deepest peels are designed for intense sun damage, very stubborn scars, and deep wrinkles. The deeper the peel, the lesser the treatments required to achieve and sustain results, but the more extensive the recovery and downtime. Today’s peels combine the best of both worlds – they support maximum improvements within the skin with minimal risks and downtime.
So, what peels do you offer?
Our founder, owner, and medical aesthetician Ama Sandhar has carefully selected the following peel services, designed for our clients’ every need:
- BioRePeelCl3® – This innovative peel packs a punch with natural TCA, AHA, BHA, and polyhydroxy acids, as well as vitamins, amino acids, and antioxidants. With this powerhouse blend of ingredients, we can exfoliate, moisturize, and stimulate skin renewal gently and as an “all-in-one” treatment. Unlike other peels, BioRePeelCl3® is a bio-stimulator, encouraging tissue repair and healing by stimulating elastin and collagen renewal to firm, tighten, and smooth the skin.
- Dermalogica® Pro Power Peel – Dermalogica’s strongest and fastest peel yet, the Pro Power Peel blends three acids to deeply exfoliate, resurface, and target dark spots, blemishes, post-inflammatory discoloration, redness, and fine lines and wrinkles. For maximum results, five treatments may be scheduled every two to four weeks.
- GREEN PEEL® — This family of herbal-powered, truly natural peels originated more than 60 years ago. Treatment includes the gentle, non-peeling “Fresh-Up” technique to enhance circulation, open pores, and promote a brighter, more refreshed appearance. We may also recommend GREEN PEEL® “Energy” to enhance both blood flow and cell metabolism, supporting a softer, smoother texture and more even tone (also without peeling).
